Long time and popular race car driver Russ Bobb, believes it maybe time to retire from driving this year. Russ still has a fast car (Late model) and is looking for a couple talented drivers to fill the seat. These new drivers may be able to fill his seat, but they the can never replace him.
There were two talented drivers testing his car at test and tune and they are both well known to Kil-Kare fans. Jack Jones and Ryan Flemming took the red and white 51 out for a few spins around the 3/10 mile track.
Jack Jones has been racing in one form or another since he was 10 years old. Like a lot of drivers he started out in the ¼ midget series. He was regional champion for 3 years 1998 thru 2000.
He raced mini sprints on dirt at 35 Raceway in2001.
He drove legends 2002 through 2006 in the Koil Touring series. He won 15 to 20 features during that time.
Jack then moved down south to help on a Hooter Cup team. Jack was hoping to make some connections to move up to the next leval of racing. He learn a lot about racing and even more about life from Mike Herman, who is the spotter for Ricky Stenhouse. Mike told Jack" that if he wanted to race this series he would need to have a million dollars"and he should go home and race. There is a racer behind every tree down here.
He also has a local mentor who passed away a couple of years ago. You might have heard of him, Lee Raymond. He said that him and lee would sit in the shop and talk about life and racing.
Jack returned back to Ohio and started racing modifieds in 2008 at Kil-Kare Speedway, CMS and Sandusky Speedway. He won the Modified championship in 2013.
The other driver testing out Russ's car was Ryan Flemming. Ryan also started his racing in the ¼ midgets series. During his time in the ¼ midgets he won 19 Regional Championships and 2 USAC Championships.
He started driving modifieds with his dad in 2010 and in 2012 he won the Modified Championship at Kil-Kare. Ryan has a late model of his own that he will also be racing this year.
Talking with these young drivers during test and tune, they both thought the car was fast and had more speed in it with just a little adjustment.
The plan is for Jack Jones to race a few races in Russ Bobb car at Shadybowl and his modified at several tracks in Ohio.
