Roger Roush started racing in 1984 and started a family tradition. His first car was a red and white striped 1973 Chevy Chevelle Street Stock , same car that Rodney now races. One of his best friend that he raced against and most often was beaten by Was Heavy Hill. Roger won many races but Heavy Hill won the championship. Heavy was hard to beat. Roger raced street stocks till 1989 with many feature wins.
Then he moved up to limited late models and raced them till 1990. He was successful and won several features.
Roger was liked by a lot of other drivers and teams. He would help anyone that he needed his help.
Rodney told me a story about a time where his day took the battery out of his truck so a competitor could make the feature. The competitor won the race. Rodney asked his dad why he helped him. Without the battery he could not have won the race. His dad said “it was sportsmanship; he wanted to win the race by beating the teams and not by the other teams not racing.
Roger enjoyed racing and would race Kil-Kare Speedway, Columbus Speedway and Shadybowl most weekends. His favorite track was Queen City Speedway.
In 1991 Roger started racing a modified with limited success.
In 1995 Roger cut back his racing because His boys wanted to race and he wanted to help them. In 1992 Rodney starts racing street stocks, Richard started racing in 1998 and Robert started racing in 2008.
Roger has hopped in a race car a few times to race against his sons. He greatest
Enjoyment was helping and watching his son’s race. 30 years of Roush racing and still going strong.
